Painting and drawing has developed as a serious activity since being an occasional hobby in my youth. Spending all my working life in the North of England, I was inspired to record industrial scenes before they disappeared and so developed my drawing and composition skills further.
The heat and light of Southern France, Italy and Spain have attracted me like so many painters. It is as if the landscapes there can be seen through another set of filters. The harmony between settlements and countryside is striking and there is limitless visual appeal to be found and experienced. As a newcomer to Linton, I have discovered that East Anglia can offer a similar experience, especially in harvest sunshine.
I have had little formal training but took ‘A’ Level Art and attended life drawing at evening classes. I have been working in various media – latterly in watercolour, pen & ink and gouache. I hope to rediscover oils before long.
