Nicola J M Collard
BA (Hons.)
The human figure has always been a constant inspiration, drawing from
life, Nicola enjoys experimenting with a variety of medium and the way
in which she uses it. Line and colour are key channels for Nicola’s
expression and the simplicity of a sketched pencil line provides the
inspiration and basis to a lot of her work.
Studies at St Martin’s College of Art and London College of Fashion
led to her Degree in Fashion and Textiles, gained at Ravensbourne, Kent.
Following this, Nicola went on to work with designer name collections
through a fashion buying career at Fenwick in Bond Street, London. A
wealth of experience and motivation was taken from working for luminaries
such as John Galliano and Jasper Conran.
Her interpretation of the human figure is distinctive, using unconventional
methods in her application of line and colour. Limited colour palettes
in unusual proportions and combinations results in pieces, which are
vibrant and sensual. With obvious influence from her fashion and textile
training her work expresses a flair for the fun and the beautiful.
Latterly, Nicola’s work has been exhibited in local galleries
and has accepted both private and corporate commissions.
