Painter and Illustrator Ingebjorg Smith graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1983 with
a first class BA hons and MA. Initially she worked as an illustrator
for BBC Scotland Gaelic children’s TV, Scotland on Sunday and
Canongate Press, amongst others. She has lectured at the Glasgow School
of Art and designed theatre posters for 7:84, Tag and Theatre Highland,
as well as designing sets, posters and costumes for Wildcat and Hallaballoo
theatre companies. She is inspired by the landscape and wildlife surrounding her home in Tain. Her work has been described as “stunning collage landscapes of birds and animals, beautifully evocative, tactile and thoroughly magical. They have a sense of place and time that is beyond their subject, and a spirit that renders them magnetic”. Over the years she has undertaken a number of projects, including murals for Skebo Castle Children’s Barn and animation commissions Arts in Motion. She was commissioned to create 10 paintings for the restaurant at Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong and 6 paintings for a cruise ship from the London Contemporary arts society. As well as this she has illustrated for the Scottish malt Whisky Society.
